Sunday 11 March 'Japan Day' at the Unity Centre

• On the 1st anniversary of The Great East Japan Earthquake •

Nipponkai present   •  Japan Day  •  Sunday 11th March

 • 2pm - 4:30pm •

at the Unity Centre, Chester, a family friendly charity fundraising event • 

Free entry, most activities 50p - so please bring lots of small change !!!  Proceeds of the event split between the Japan Society Tohoku Earthquake Relief Fund and Nipponkai •

Musical performances including harp, singing, dancing - times: 2:30pm & 3:30pm •


Please come and enjoy Japanese creative activities and fun games, ayatori challenge, Hina Doll display •

Try your hand at mini kokeshi doll making, calligraphy and origami •

Dress up in a real yukata or kimono • get your photo taken and send a message of support to the people of Tohoku • display of videos and photos on the disaster then and now • a chance to buy delicious Japanese treats • meet Nozomi-chan our 14 foot high kokeshi doll giant • Face painting - cherry blossom or kabuki style !

Media Library Project

日本会メンバーの皆さま

先週木曜日より、日本会図書プロジェクトが始まりました。
参加して下さった皆さま、ありがとうございました！
みなさん楽しみながら作業をして下さいました。

Unity Centreの二階に日本会のデスクがありまして、そこに図書プロジェクトの説明書が置いて有ります。もしお時間のある方は、いつでも作業を続けて下さって結構ですので、よろしくお願い致します。

Dear Members,

Thank you very much for those who came and helped with the Japanese Library Project last Thursday.  We made good progress on that day.

If any members wish to help with the project are always welcome to go to the Unity Centre and carry on with the work when it's convenient for you as the instructions are on the Nipponkai desk upstairs.

If you're not sure about anything, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Japanese Media Library Project

UPDATE on Nipponkai's MEDIA LIBRARY PROJECT - Chester library have agreed to display our donated Japanese language books, both fiction and non-fiction, which will make them much more accessible and searchable on the Cheshire library system. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to come to the Unity Centre and help translate the authors name and book titles into English. If you can help please come to the Unity Centre on THURSDAY 9th February between 12 noon and 2pm.


チェスター図書館が、皆さまから日本会に寄付して頂いた日本の書籍をチェスターライブラリーシステムに入れてくださる事になりました。これにより、より多くの人達に日本書籍の貸出が可能となります。とても嬉しいニュースです！！そこで、皆さまにお願いです。来週2月9日(木曜日) 午後12時から2時の間、The Unity Centreで日本書籍のタイトル、著者の英語訳をしてくださるボランティアを募っています。お時間がある方、是非参加してください。よろしくお願いします。では来週、The Unity Centreでお会いしましょう！

東日本大震災一周年のイベント開催のお知らせ Planned event on the anniversary of the 11 March Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami

今日は、東日本大震災一周年のイベント開催のお知らせをさせて頂きます。

もうあの大震災から一年が経とうとしています。人々の記憶から薄れつつあるあの日を忘れないようにという願いを込めて。また支援して下さった方々に感謝の気持ちを込め、今後の被災地支援につながる様に。

そしてこの地域に住む日本人の方々が団結して推し進めていけるようなイベントにしていきたいと思っております。

まずは概要です。

日時: 3月11日(日曜日)、午後1時から4時まで。

開催場所: 現在交渉中ですが、University of Chester (不可能な場合、The Unity Centre)

催し物: ① 日本食ケータリング

             ② 工作 - こけし作りなど

             ③ 被災地の写真展示

             ④ 日本の音楽 - 合唱、踊りなどパフォーマンス

             ⑤ ラッフル、ゲームなど

             ⑥ ジャイアント - のぞみちゃん展示

以上からの売り上げは、Japan Society Tohoku Earthquake Relief Fund と日本会ファンドで二分する。

この概要を基に企画の発展、準備を進めていく予定です。

そこで、このイベントのボランティアを募集しております。アイディア、企画、実行してくださる方々、大募集です。

お手伝いして頂ける方、是非ご連絡ください。お待ちしております。

このイベントを機に少しでもこの地域に住む日本人の輪が広がればと思っております。

また随時、決定事項など情報をアップデートさせて頂きます。

This FREE drop-in English Conversation corner is proving popular at Chester library.  If you want to give it a try - just turn up.  It's going to be available at other libraries and the Unity Centre in the near future; we'll let you know when it's decided.
