The Unity Centre's 1st Birthday 2nd & 3rd November

The Unity Centre's 1st birthday event is coming up on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd November.

As Nipponkai we're going to do ORIGAMI WORKSHOP on Friday 2nd, 10am-11am. Thanks to those who already volunteered to help on that day.  If you'd like to come and help, please let us know. 
As always we appreciate your support!

The Multicultural MARKET PLACE from 2pm until 4:30pm will be selling lots of interesting Japanese things to raise funds for Nipponkai.

There are lots of interesting activities on both days, so please come and join.  Don't forget to book your places - all activities are FREE!

Memorial Event at the Groves

The Hiroshima Nagasaki memorial in Chester has been held every year since about 1981, with readings, dropping white flowers on the river and a period for silent reflection.  About 6 years ago, with an assistant ambassador from the Japanese Embassy, we planted a memorial tree on the south bank of the river, and the final reading always comes from there.  The whole event only lasts 30-40 minutes.

去年参加された方々はご承知かと思いますが、私達のジャイアント - のぞみちゃんと共にチェスターの街を練り歩きます。今回のパレードは、Diamond Jubilee ということで60体のエリザベス女王ジャイアントがメインとなるパレードです。なので私たちはお祭り盛り上げ隊？といった感じでしょうか。
このジャイアントパレードに参加出来る方々、ぜひご一報ください！
大体の参加人数を把握したいので、よろしくお願いします。

We'd like to let you know that the Chester Giant parade is coming up on 4th of June.

Some of you are already familiar with this event, we're going to parade with our giant called Nozomi chan in Chester city centre.
This year the Chester Giants are celebrating Queen's Diamond Jubilee with 60 Queen Elizabeth giants and we're going to join the celebration too !
We're hoping many of you will be able to participate, please let us know as we'd like to know roughly how many people are able to take part.  It's great fun !

さて今日はヨガクラス再開のお知らせです！
第一回のクラスは、来週5月3日木曜日の午後1時から2時に開催致します。
今回から日本会メンバーお一人様につき一回 ￡3 となりますので、その点ご理解お願いします。
ヨガクラスに参加して頂くには、まず日本会メンバーになって頂く事が前提となりますのでご了承ください。
先生は、前回同様みちえさんにして頂きます。よろしくお願い致します。
ヨガマットをお持ちでない方は、タオル、ブランケットでも大丈夫です。

Dear Members,
Hope everyone is well.
We're going to restart our very popular Yoga class by Michie san from next week!
It starts on Thursday 3rd of May at 1pm for an hour at the Unity Centre.
Please note that there's going to be a small charge of £3 each person per session.
You can use a towel or a blanket if you haven't got a yoga mat.
We're looking forward to seeing many of you there next week!

JAPANESE LANGUAGE BOOKS in Chester library. This valuable resource, now accessible from Cheshire libraries, is the result of our members generosity and hard work. It's important that we us it as much as possible - it's a case of  - USE IT OR LOSE IT !

Adult Learners' Week

みなさんもうチェスター図書館の日本書籍をご覧になられましたか？ どうぞご利用ください！
今日は、チェスター図書館のAdult Learners' Week のお知らせです。
5月12日から18日の間にチェスター図書館で開催されます。
そこで、5月17日木曜日の午後1時30分から午後2時30分にJapanese hour として着つけ、折り紙ワークショップをする事となりました。

もし皆さまの中で当日お手伝い出来る方がいらっしゃいましたら、ご一報頂けると大変ありがたいです。
概要は、着付けは浴衣がメインでJapan Dayの時のように参加者に着付けてあげる。
浴衣は私の方で用意致します。
折り紙ワークショップは、事前に作る作品を何点か決めておき、当日参加者に教える。
折り紙は用意済みです。

I hope that everyone had a good Easter holiday! 
Adult Learners' Week is coming up at Chester library in May.
Special activities are going to be held at the library between 12th and 18th of May.

As Nipponkai we are going to have "Japanese Hour" on Thursday 17th May between 1:30pm and 2:30pm.
We're going to offer Yukata & Kimono dressing up and also Origami workshop.

For this coming Thursday 19th April, we're going to have Nipponkai social at the Unity Centre between 12pm and 2pm. Please bring your lunch if you wish.

今日は大変嬉しいお知らせがあります！
いよいよ本日から、日本書籍がチェスター図書館で借りられます。
皆さま是非ご利用ください。
日本書籍のある場所は、地下一階の子ども図書の隣です。
階段を降りて、左側の棚に並んでいます。とても見やすい場所に置いて下さいました。
また今後、図書館で日本のイベント開催などのアイディアもありますので、企画が決まりし次第お知らせ致しますね。

Hi Everyone,
Just to let you know that we are able to borrow Japanese books at Chester Library from today!
Please go and enjoy the books!!
They're located downstairs next to Children's corner.
When you go downstairs, it's on your left - it's very easy to spot.
There're some ideas about holding Japanese event at the library in the future.
We'll let you know about the plan when it's finalised.
There will be no Nipponkai social on 5th nor 12th.

3.11 Nipponkai's Japan Day - A Big Success

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to everyone who took part in Nipponkai's JAPAN DAY event on 11.3.2012 - the 1st Anniversary of The Great East Japan Earthquake. Our thoughts went out to the many victims of the disaster in Tohoku. As you can see from the photos we had a lot happening - musical performances, yukata dressing up, tombola, face painting, tea ceremony, calligraphy, kokeshi doll making, origami, for sale stalls, food stalls, craft sales, a Hina doll & Kabuto display - and Nozomi-chan our 14ft giant kokeshi doll welcoming our visitors !!!
It was good to see so many new faces - many of whom signed up as Nipponkai members. It was so busy at times our committee members didn't get a chance to speak to everyone, but hope everyone had a good time and had an opportunity to see our thriving Japanese community in action. The total raised on the day was £860 !!!

Japanese Media Library Project

UPDATE on Nipponkai's MEDIA LIBRARY PROJECT - Chester library have agreed to display our donated Japanese language books, both fiction and non-fiction, which will make them much more accessible and searchable on the Cheshire library system. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to come to the Unity Centre and help translate the authors name and book titles into English. If you can help please come to the Unity Centre on THURSDAY 9th February between 12 noon and 2pm.

東日本大震災一周年のイベント開催のお知らせ Planned event on the anniversary of the 11 March Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami

日本会メンバーの皆様

今日は、東日本大震災一周年のイベント開催のお知らせをさせて頂きます。

もうあの大震災から一年が経とうとしています。人々の記憶から薄れつつあるあの日を忘れないようにという願いを込めて。また支援して下さった方々に感謝の気持ちを込め、今後の被災地支援につながる様に。

そしてこの地域に住む日本人の方々が団結して推し進めていけるようなイベントにしていきたいと思っております。

まずは概要です。

日時: 3月11日(日曜日)、午後1時から4時まで。

開催場所: 現在交渉中ですが、University of Chester (不可能な場合、The Unity Centre)

催し物: ① 日本食ケータリング

             ② 工作 - こけし作りなど

             ③ 被災地の写真展示

             ④ 日本の音楽 - 合唱、踊りなどパフォーマンス

             ⑤ ラッフル、ゲームなど

             ⑥ ジャイアント - のぞみちゃん展示

以上からの売り上げは、Japan Society Tohoku Earthquake Relief Fund と日本会ファンドで二分する。

この概要を基に企画の発展、準備を進めていく予定です。

そこで、このイベントのボランティアを募集しております。アイディア、企画、実行してくださる方々、大募集です。

お手伝いして頂ける方、是非ご連絡ください。お待ちしております。

このイベントを機に少しでもこの地域に住む日本人の輪が広がればと思っております。

Free English Conversation Sessions

This FREE drop-in English Conversation corner is proving popular at Chester library.  If you want to give it a try - just turn up.  It's going to be available at other libraries and the Unity Centre in the near future; we'll let you know when it's decided.
Also starting soon will FREE ESOL classes at the Unity Centre - use the 'follow by email' box on the left for email alerts !

Yoga

Nipponkai is pleased to confirm 2 more YOGA classes - 26th Jan & 2nd Feb.,  1pm at the Unity Centre.  We are hoping to run more yoga classes later this year, so watch this space and sign up for email notification in the box to the left of this post.

Diversity Festival at the University of Chester

The 2012 Diversity Festival is taking place from 6-17th February with many exciting events taking place throughout the fortnight.  The Diversity festival is open to the public, students and staff.  The Festival provides a unique opportunity to experience different cultures and perspectives.
